Design Dreams: My Career Path

Remember when I said I was ready to dive into some serious planning? Well, here we go! You’ve probably skimmed through my about page and noticed my background in interior design. I know, it might seem worlds apart from graphic design. You’re probably wondering, “Why study both?” Well, here’s the scoop: I’m a design junkie through and through, and you’d be surprised at how closely interior and graphic design can dance together.

Now, you might be thinking, “What does this trip down memory lane have to do with my 5-10 year plan?” Good question! You see, deep down, I’m an interior designer at heart. I get a kick out of space planning and don’t even get me started on the thrill of picking out materials (who knew choosing textiles and ceramics could be so much fun?). But when I stumbled upon graphic design in my senior year of uni, it was like love at first sight. I fell head over heels for its versatility and laid-back vibe.

So, when I envision my dream career path, it’s one that lets me savor the best of both worlds. And where does that magical scenario happen? In the world of magazines. Specifically, interior design magazines. Picture this: five years down the road, I’m wearing two hats. One, I’m a full-time designer, maybe even a young, successful art director, at a cool company. And two, I’m a freelancer, putting my experience to good use.

With the wisdom gained in those five years, I might just muster the courage to venture into the realm of interior design magazines. You know, the big shots like ArchDigest (a girl can dream, right?) or Style at Home. How much fun would that be? But that’s just one side of my dream career path.

I also see myself as a potential freelancer, offering my expertise in either interior or graphic design to keep those skills razor-sharp. Who knows, if you swing by five years from now, you might find me adding architecture to my ever-growing list of skills. Until then, this fellow designer is putting in the hard work, paving her way to those goals, and then some.
